There was bunch of burning wood
With tongues of fire
Licking mightily every consumable thing
Leaping higher onto the air

The fire burned through the darkest night
Illuminating the events
Reminding her of why she loved him
Even though he did not

She gave fire and she gave light
Her love burned consistently
Without adding more wood onto the bunch
She was burning herself

Years passed and all who looked on
Saw a mound of gray ashes scattered on the ground
A puff of smoke faintly rises up the air
Until it was all gone

If events are to memories
As fire is to ashes
Then she was a girl who loved
But was never loved back

Until a strong sweep of wind came
And blew against the ashes
No one knew that a small fire was left in her heart
And it was starting to grow again
